 Movies as a form of Entertainment.



Movies are one of the best forms of entertainment among the people because movies offer something new and different to everyone. Entertainment is how people spend their leisure time. So, when people free from their occupation they are seeking to have some entertainment. To have better entertainment movies are the best source in contemporary world. Because movies are dramatic, intense, funny and much more. So, people can entertain their leisure time better by movies.

People can easily watch movies through several platforms. Mainly people can watch movies directly by film halls. It has better entertainment more than watching movies by other platforms. Because film hall has huge displays, good sound systems and also better lighting systems etc. So, it gives you real filming experience. That’s why is better than other platforms.

And also, in Sri Lanka People can watch movies through Television. Majority of Sri Lanka use television to watch movies because it is very easy and simple to access. Also, Sri Lankan people use Netflix, Apple, Hulu, Amazon prime, Disney+, YouTube, Facebook to watch movies worldwide. Netflix is most popular platform around the world and people can watch latest movies through Netflix. Other platforms also popular among people as well and people have to pay subscription fee for some platforms to use them. So, there are so many ways to watch movies in nowadays.

There are some movie categories which are categories by country. In Sri Lanka it is called as Follywood. When talking about the Indian movie industry there are such categories those are categories based on the country. Bollywood and kollywood related to Indian film industry. Hollywood is another category which related to American film industry. Nollywood is also film category which related to Nigerian film industry. Accordingly, there have more movies categories based on the countries.  

In Sri Lanka, there are several types of movie genres. Mainly the basic movie genres are as following,

The adventure genre is closely related to classical conflict and martial arts narratives and you will find them through all forms of art and literature. Hero Nero, Death stone, Punchi apith baya na dan and warigapojja are the few of adventure movies in Sri Lanka. The comedy genre, which has been a favorite of young and adult filmgoers since the beginning of cinema, is a fun, somewhat sophisticated and innovative genre that has delighted viewers for decades. These include some of the greatest names in Sri Lankan filmmaking history - such as Freddie Silva, berty gunathilaka, Bandu Samarasinghe and Tennyson Cooray who have had successful careers, inventing new and unique ways to make audiences laugh.

Horror films may include episodes of physical violence and psychological terror; They can be studies of distorted, disturbed, psychic or evil characters; Stories of dangerous monsters or evil beasts; Or mystery adventure films that use the atmosphere to build suspicion. MAYA (2016), U turn (2019) are some of latest Sri Lankan Horror movies. So, these genres have different type of content and people can entertain in different ways.

Watching movie is not only give people entertainment but also it has many advantages. Movies encourage people to act. their favorite characters, superheroes, teach them life lessons. movies give us ideas and inspiration to do everything better instead of waiting for what we want to happen. Movies also provide mental health benefit as well such as boost people’s minds, relaxation, motivation, reduce stress, inspire social and cultural reflections etc. watching movies is not only benefit to the adults but also children have benefits. Movies can help develop children's cognitive skills such as developing long-term memory, maintaining concentration, and developing logic, reasoning, visual and auditory processes. Movies bring a lot of dialogue scenes that help children introduce a lot of vocabulary and pronunciation.



There are lot of movies those most popular in Sri Lanka. In 2017 Dharmayuddaya movie became the highest grossing movie in Sri Lanka replacing the Aba movie. Baddegama, Gamperaliya, Kaliyugaya, Golu hadawatha, Yuganthaya, Madolduwa are some good old movies in Sri Lanka. And also, Goal, A Level, Suparna, Seda Mawatha are some good latest movies in Sri Lanka. Avatar (2009) is the most popular movie in the world. The extent how much people loyal to movies are very huge. People follow superstars in movies and they try to dress like them and try to be like them. Vijaya Kumaratunga, Ranjan Ramanayake are such kind of superstars in Sri Lanka. People collect action figure toys, Stickers, posters, cards of all movies they love. Even they decorate their rooms using those things.

If there is movie which people most favorite and if it has next episode, people can’t wait till its next episode come to them. When it arrives people struggling to watch movie soon. They watch it not only one time it may 10 time or may be more than that. That much they loyal to movies they love. They are super fans of those movies. That’s why movies are the best entertainment method in the world. People are highly entertaining with movies.
